Role of our Peace and Justice group

Posted June 2019

The Peace and Justice Steering Committee keeps our congregation aware of emerging and ongoing issues in our world, as well as opportunities for action. Some of the issues we have been bringing forward and groups we are working with are:
•Support of immigrants targeted by ICE and the two immigrants in sanctuary at the UU of Northampton, andFirst Church in Amherst•Support of refugees being resettled in the Northampton area, and membership in the Pioneer Valley InterfaithRefugee Action Group•Support of LGBTQ rights, our Journey group and PrideParade•Anti-racism, following the Poor Peoples Campaign, and Standing Up For Racial Justice•Mitigating and adapting to climate change, working with climate Action Now •Abolishing nuclear weapons and preventing nuclear war, working with Back from the Brink, and the TreatyAwareness Campaign
The Committee is a small group seeking new members. We need you to help us prioritize issues, steer the congregation’s engagement and participation, and organize events and programs. We know our congregation cares about peace & justice issues. We need more people to be active in our committee to take our concerns into action. Speak to Doug Renick and Lisa Hall for more information.
