Peace and Justice Survey Report

Peace and Justice Steering Committee Survey Report
February 2019

As you know, this winter Peace & Justice Steering Committee asked members of the congregation to fill out a survey which would help us know where you want us to steer this year.
The first section of the survey asked members of the congregation to rate their level of interest in a list of topics.  In tallying the interest levels, if the topic was rated “1” it received 1 point, rated “3” it received 3 points, and rated “5” it received 5 points.    Below are the ratings in order from highest to lowest:

78 points — Dismantling racism, building a relationship with a black church

73 points – Support for refugees and immigrants

70 points – Care of the earth, climate action

69 points – Economic disparity, poverty, criminal justice reform

59 points – Exploring the needs of our Haydenville neighbors and building relationships locally

59 points – Gun control

58 points – LGBTQ rights, especially Trans rights

44 points – Nuclear arms, war economy, peace

38 points – Campaign finance reform

Additional topics of interest which were written in were:  Disabilities, esp. children’s special needs, and elder services; Native American Spiritual Teachings; Educational Department: prison without walls; and Economic Justice.

The second section of the survey asked what times were best for events.  Below the times are listed in order of preference:

67 points – Sunday after church

48 points – Thursday evening

46 points – Saturday morning

38 points — Saturday afternoon or Tuesday evening

32 points – Monday evening

We want to thank the 22 members who participated in the survey.  Also, more than half the responders said Yes, they’d like to be more involved in Peace & Justice activities.  Please watch for how we will use these survey results to tailor P&J events and initiatives this year, and for opportunities for you to get more involved in Peace & Justice work.
