If you have never been to church, or if your recollections of church is as a child attending services you did not connect with, you might be wondering what “worship” is all about.
Worship at Haydenville Congregational Church means being part of an enthusiastic, Spirit-filled, sometimes noisy community of believers who are collectively working to understand and embrace the radical lessons of Jesus Christ and live them in today’s world. It is a place to live out the Christian values and principles of peace, justice, compassion, generosity, inclusion and fairness in this broken but beautiful world.
Worship is at the center of all we do. It’s intimate and inclusive; expansive and celebratory. Our denomination, the United Church of Christ, affirms that each generation has the blessing and responsibility to “make the faith its own.” At Haydenville Congregational we do this with worship that really speaks to our current, everyday lives, while drawing on traditional and modern elements of worship to keep our souls attuned to the Holy Spirit.
We all lead busy lives, but Sunday morning is time we dedicate to ourselves, to God, and to one another. It is a chance to find belonging and a peace that the world cannot give.
Worship services start at 10 a.m. with a warm and inclusive statement of welcome. It is a worship service filled with smart and relevant sermons, a service filled with music, clapping, laughter and tears. Every Sunday a response time following the sermon gives parishioners an opportunity to share thoughts and reactions to the sermon. There is also a time when the parishioners share both joys and concerns for themselves, family and loved ones.
Services are engaging for all ages and we welcome children and youth to participate in our worship services and all other activities.
ALL are welcome to celebrate communion with us the first Sunday of each month. (Even if you’ve been told otherwise at another church.) Gluten-free options are always available.
Parking at the church is available in the parking lot behind the church as well as along the side of High Street. There are also a few spaces on the side of Bridge St on the gravel towards the side of the Ross Bros. gas station – however please do NOT park anywhere near the gas station itself or pumps. Since the church parking lot is small, we ask that those able to walk from the street consider parking there to ensure adequate parking closer to the church for those who need it.
